RESUME

Katherine L. Wright
architect, illustrator & artist

KATHERINE L. WRIGHT was born in Seattle, Washington State. She attended the “Cornish School of Fine Arts” in Seattle, and graduated in Architecture from Washington State University, 1977. She is a commercial architect and an architectural illustrator specializing in watercolors. From 2005 until 2008, she has lived and worked in Puglia, Giovinazzo (Bari), Italy.

Painting since 1993, Katherine is recognized for professional Architectural Illustration and Watercolor Residential Portraiture. She gives credit for her understanding of perspective to her 25 years as a licensed Architect.

Katherine says “ I would call myself a "tonal" artist. I love watercolor for its immediacy, its serendipity and elusive beauty.

My goal in approaching a project is to create a work of art that elicits an emotional response. I attempt to capture the character of the place, mixed with the playfulness and mystery of watercolor.

As a result of my training as an architect, I have a keen sense of perspective and understand the importance of accuracy of detail. Watercolor illustration combined with my artistic vision communicates a sense of place to the viewer.

Rather than a photographic fact, I give the viewer a sense of a place ,a need to explore the painting. The texture of the pigment and the unexpected mixing of the colors combine to transmit the energy of my subjects.”
